So. Here we are. You, me, and a page just waiting to be filled up with words that will make you want to visit my blog every day. No pressure.
What makes a person start a blog, anyway? Is it from a desire to be heard in an insane world? Maybe. Some people think it is an "attention" thing. You know : a look-at-how-perfect-my-life-is, nana-nana-boo-boo. I guess there may be a few out there. Really, though, I have to wonder. Technology has been such a great thing for our society, really. It has given us modern medicine that saves lives, instant communication to keep families close even at great distances, and so many possibilities that never were even an idea before the onset of the internet-age, but at what cost?
Sometimes I feel like I spend my entire life in front of an audience, don't you? There is Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc . . . all places designed to keep us in touch, to get us noticed, or to allow others a peek at our lives, and they are wonderful. They really are. Yet, all our moments are out there for others to see, and don't you ever feel pressured to be a little more perfect? Do you ever censor yourself and think "I better not put this, because someone might think this" or "Wow . . . this picture makes me look old, I better put this photoshopped one, instead"? With so much attention being placed we tend to build our personal confidence levels based on how we think other's will perceive us. So, we post our perfect moments. We post our big moments. We upload that gorgeous selfie, or that awesome dessert we made in the hopes that others will see them and be proud of us, or for us. Then, we spend hours upon hours a week looking at those little shots of others' lives and we start to feel like ours are sometimes less than desirable. We have lost our focus. We've forgotten the "why". We get so busy looking at the snapshots of other people's perfect moments that we forget to look as closely at our own, and we start feeling lost. A blog lets you change that. It forces you to pay a little extra attention in your own life and gives you the chance to realize that nobody's life is perfect. Nobody's life is as easy as it looks in those milli-second long instances captured in those photographs you have spent your days filing away to memory as you read someone else's life-story. Life is hard, sometimes. It is crazy, and sometimes sad. Good things happen, but so do bad things. There is fun to be had, but also droning boredom. That picture you saw on facebook the other day? Maybe the little girl looked so cute in her boutique dress and perfectly-pinned hair while blowing giant homemade glow-in-the-dark bubbles as the sun set in the background. How could you not want that for your kids when you see it? What you don't see is that after mom took the picture she looked away for a moment to upload it to social media. By the time she got back, the bubble solution was dumped all over the freshly-washed car (resulting in a glowing windshield), the beautiful boutique dress was ruined when the little girl sat down in the mud and threw a tantrum because it was time to get ready for bed, and mom's cell phone got dropped in said mud-puddle while trying to talk the little girl into thinking it was HER idea to go inside and take a bath. Ok, maybe not, but you get the drift. Life is full of surprises, both good and bad, and sometimes we feel great about ourselves at the end of the day, but not always. Sometimes you are going to feel a little less than perfect. That's ok. In the end, life is what you make it, and if you want to be happy you will be.
So. I have started this blog. Its out there for everyone to see. The good, the bad, the ugly, and the wondrous, and I am excited about what tomorrow will bring. Maybe I will get a bazillion readers who adore me and sing my praises, or maybe I will have a few pity-views from close family members. Who knows? All I know is that this is me, my life, my little piece of perfection (well . . . close, anyway), and I hope that you enjoy seeing my "snapshots", but I also hope that you enjoy your own even more.
Thanks for reading!
